The Help by Camille and Antoine
The synopsis :
The Help is a novel which was writed by Kathryn Stocket
and adapted in a drama movie by Tate Taylor, presented to Americans in 2011. Principal
ac tors are Emma Stone, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer. This story takes place
in Jacskon, a little city of Mississippi, during the 60’s: the area of civil
rights. At this time, there was a racial segregation between Black and White
people: the Blacks were juged lower and in White people’s orders. Emma Stone,
in Skeeter’s place, is determined to be a writer. So shocks by what happened in
her society, she decides to write a book about this racial segregation, in the
point of view of Blacks. For help her, she asks two Black maids who’s called Aibileen,
plays by Viola Davis, and Minny, by Octavia Spencer. She wants them to tell
their stories, spent their lives which are devoted to take care of prominent
southern families.
The scene : Aibileen’s
home
In this film, there are many
important scene. But for me, the most important is the second scene in the
kitchen of Aibileen. During this scene, Skeeter is coming secretly at Aibileen’s
home, because Black and White people can’t see each other. She wants her to spent
her story. At the start, Aibileen is perplexed and don’t talk a lot. But, with the
time, she starts little by little to tell some anecdotes of her help to white
people. This scene represents the start of the writing of Skeeter’s book, the
start of her very important and incredible project, which will lead to the
creation of polemics in the society of this little city. Furthermore, she shows
us a strong relationship with many conversations and laughs, between a White
and a Black women: is a large contrast with what happened in the real society.
The critic :
This movie, The Help, allow
us to understand the relationship between Black and White people. We can learn
there was a big different of lifestyle between this two categories of people
with only differents of skin’s colors.
She allows to discover the racial segregation in the 60’s and imagine
the different way of thinking. However, characters are very caricatural,
especially white women, who use eccentric attitude and lots of gestures, and always
mistreat Black maids. The story treat a very important subject with satirical
humor and touching situations.
